In our home we try to make as many things as we can, not only to save money but also to keep things as chemical free as possible, which is better for the Earth and better for us! If you can't go completely chemical free, it's okay! Give yourself some grace because it can be hard to find the right things and to have all the information and knowledge. Just do the best you can with what you have because it really is better than the store bought things.
I started making my own baby wipes when my youngest was born and how I wish I knew this was possible before that! He rarely had a diaper rash, only when teething or if he was wearing a store bought diaper instead of a cloth diaper. I'm especially grateful for this knowledge in these scary times when everything is limited and hard to get. I've been able to help out friends with little ones so they can make their own.
I personally like using coconut oil with Live Clean shampoo. You can use any oil and any baby shampoo that you are most comfortable with. The measurements and process is super simple and super quick.
The first thing you're going to need to do is find a good quality paper towel if you're doing disposable or some nice scraps of cloth. For mine, I use old cloth diapers cut into strips or Royale Tiger Towel (I also highly recommend Viva paper towel but I found Bounty to feel almost slimy and didn't actually hold up as well).

The next step is to cut your roll of paper towel in half. For this you can use an electric knife or a small saw. Any large serrated knife will also work but requires a bit more effort.
For the wipe solution, start with 1 to 1.5 cups of water and add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil. Stir to dissolve and then add 1-2 teaspoons of baby shampoo. Warm water works the best for this, but it does not need to be hot. Pour half the solution over the paper towel, turn the towel over and pour the remaining (or as much needed) onto that side. If you find them too wet, you can squeeze out some of the liquid. This is where I separate the sheets to make it easier to grab them.

You can make extra and store them in an air tight container but I wouldn't recommend making too much in advance because they might go bad. I usually make two containers (or one whole paper towel) at a time.

If you are using the cloth wipes then you can just go ahead and place them in the container you will be using and pour the solution on top of them.
If you've tried making your own wipes before, I'd love to hear how you liked it and what your thoughts are. Which do you prefer, homemade or store bought?
As an added bonus, these also work great for cleansing the face and I don't have to worry about harsh chemicals on the kids faces if I need to use these to wipe their mouths. Have you ever used baby wipes to clean your child's face before going into a store and you notice their lips get a small rash or extremely chapped? These home made wipes won't do that to their sensitive skin :) Use them on your own face as well! The coconut oil is a great moisturizer.
If you're interested in trying these out and have questions, please leave them in the comments and I'd be happy to help you out!
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe out there!
