Egg-cellent Easter Activities

Need some ideas to entertain your kids this weekend?? I bet you have a whole lot of plastic eggs lying around!  So I’ve compiled a whole whack of ideas that are so easy to put together and will provide hours of entertainment and even some learning too! .

Below are 10 super fun activities that you could easily put together at home! .

🥚  Easter Egg hunts (a classic!)

All you need is some pretty eggs and some baskets and the kids will have a blast hiding and finding eggs over and over again! Challenge your little's to only find one colour at a time or find a certain number of eggs. The fun is in the hunt for eggs.. so filling them isn't needed. But the possibilities are endless if you decided to add something inside! Add in a wooden or magnetic letter and make it into a letter hunt! Use a letter mat for the little's to place their found letters on. You could do this with numbers too! Or fill the eggs with tiny items for your little's to count!

.

🥚Making patterns

Recycle some egg cartons and use a variety of coloured eggs. Your little's can sort and pattern to their hearts content! Challenge them by drawing a colour pattern on paper and get them to match it. Or play a what's missing game by removing one egg while their eyes are closed. Egg cartons would make a great counting activity too!

.

🥚Egg races

All you need is some cardboard (you don’t have to get fancy) prop it up on a small table and race your eggs!  Have each kid choose a different colour and race a batch of them at once! Tally the winners and see who wins, best of 12 races, adding in some math fun! Experiment with the eggs speed if you were to put in a rock or pom poms, and see which egg goes faster!

.

🥚Chalkboard eggs

These can be found at Walmart or dollars stores, but any matte finish egg will do! Put out some coloured chalk and your little's will enjoy endless decorating fun! Just Wipe and repeat!

.

🥚Colour coded eggs

Make some simple cards by colouring the top half and bottom half in different colours.. then have the kids put the plastic eggs together to match! This provides great visual discrimination and problem solving practice!

.

🥚Nesting Eggs

This ones my favorite! If you have a few different sized eggs lying around why not make some nesting eggs!  Turn it into a colour sorting activity and the little's will be sure to enjoy! The surprise on their faces when they open an egg to find another will be so fun! Add in a coloured pom pom for one last little surprise or a tiny chick if you have one! Its also great problem solving for them to put the eggs all back inside!

.

🥚 Alphabet Matching Eggs

Write lower case letters on the bottom half of 26 plastic eggs and the upper case letters on the top half. Match the colours to narrow the search when it comes time to pair up the eggs. Put each half of the eggs in different baskets and get your little's to match them up! So great for letter recognition! But you could easily make it a game by getting two kids (or you and your child) to take turns picking one half while the other finds the match!

.

🥚 Colour sorting

A super simple activity but so effective! Label different baskets with a spelled out colour name (written in that particular colour) and have the kids sort away! Count the different coloured eggs and compare the amounts!

.

🥚 Egg Shakers

Turn your plastic eggs into musical instruments! Put out a variety of dried beans, rice, corn.. even pom poms, beads and bells. Let the little's scoop and fill the eggs and then shake and discuss the different sounds they make!

🥚 Egg Scoop

Get a large bin and fill it with water... add in your eggs along with ladles, spoons, tongs and strainers and let your kids go "fishing for eggs"! You could even throw your eggs in the bath for a fun Easter twist on bath time! Add an experimental element by filling some with rocks and see if they sink or float! .

.

And that's a warp!
